A heritage of centuries

Middle ages

The legend

In the Middle Ages, nobles protected their castles and their subjects from enemy attacks. The fortresses that survived these episodes of war were admired for centuries by the residents of the neighboring towns.

1477

The fortress

One of the fortresses of La Rioja Alta resisted constant fights against the enemies who tried to seize the lands of the nobles.

Several heroic episodes of resistance and the definitive survival of the fortress made it admired not only by the residents of the nearby towns, but it also became a landmark construction of the entire geographical area, which was named Rivum Oia.

1475

Wine tradition

Over the years, some vineyards were raised around the fortress which made the construction an even more admired place, so much so that a town was formed under the hill of the building which entered into the winemaking tradition.
